Dilemma!

Tonight, do I scour the internet in search of stream for WEC 41, OR do I plop in front of the TV and watch Neil Patrick Harris host the Tony Awards?

I am very seriously conflicted about this. On the one hand: Urijah Faber vs. Mike Brown!

On the other: NPH!!

But... Violence!

And yet... Singing! and Dancing!

I'm pretty sure that I just might be one of the few individuals conflicted by this choice tonight.

I paid no attention to the Academy Awards last night. None. Instead, I watched Oliver Twist on PBS with my mom. I'm glad, too.

I'm glad that Kate finally won her Oscar (especially since Mom and I watched Sense and Sensibility Saturday night). Mickey Rourke should have won his. I'm sure it was touching when Heath won. I just don't give a damn this year. I was just over it when The Wrestler wasn't even nominated for Best Picture.

I'll be looking forward to  checking out the fashion later. I just don't really care. Not really at all.

I do care, however, a great about the fact that Dad is probably coming home from the hospital today! Yay! On my birthday! Double yay!

I have to wonder if all the people who are upset about Mickey Rourke winning for best actor over Sean Penn, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Brad Pitt have actually seen The Wrestler.

It really sounds like people are just appalled that someone out of the cool A-list club, that isn't even PRETTY, could even DARE to win an award. It's kind of annoying.

That said, I haven't seen any of the nominated performances, so I can't really say if he deserved it. The critics say that he does. The Hollywood Foreign Press says that he does. It's just a bunch of douche bags on livejournal who think otherwise. I think they're too hung up on him being an old holdover from way back when and the movie focusing on a professional wrestler.

You know, I really don't know why, but I really thought that I'd be happy with this year's nominations. I was so wrong though. No Mary McDonnell for Outstanding Lead Actress, which is bullshit. She's so fantastic in that role. Still, it's a Sci Fi series (that isn't Lost), so I knew it was a long shot. But why oh why was Friday Night LIghts completely ignored AGAIN!? Specifically, the amazing work of Connie Britton. She should have won that Emmy last year (and the show should have won the Emmy too--it truly was the perfect season of television), but not even a nomination? It's so hard to take these seriously when clearly it's just the same old standbys that keep getting all the recognition.

I am happy for Lee Pace and Kristin Chenoweth for their noms (Pushing Daisies as a series should have gotten a nom too...), and go 30 Rock--I have the feeling that they're gonna do a pretty clean sweep this year. And you know, it was a damn funny show this past season, so they deserve it.

I'm still upset though.

Nothing great. No big surprises. Nothing...except apparently Best Actress is no longer considered important enough to be at the end with Best Director, Actor, and Picture. Huh.

For better, more coherent thoughts (and thorough coverage), check out [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda. She's the best.

I can't wait to scavenge through getty images to thoroughly examine the fashion. I am very excited.

GO JUNO!

I will defend the writing of that movie til I am blue in the face. Yes, that includes the "overly" quirky dialogue. Diablo Cody penned a fantastic story.

And what a great speech. I'm a sucker for when they break down and audibly start crying. Horrible dress though.
thatgirlteresa: (The Iceman)
How do they decide who to include? Because I was wondering, why no Brad Renfro? He's been in movies. Plenty of 'em...
thatgirlteresa: (Music)
And having seen the productions that everyone else got, boy do I feel bad for Amy Adams. She was up there all by her lonesome, and everyone else at least had some instruments on stage. The others had choirs and dancers and sets! Poor lady.

And the winner is... Not an Enchanted song. Poo. It was a nice song and everything. But I really love "That's How You Know." I suppose 3 nominations from the same movie jinxed it/split the vote. Ah well.

I had a nice birthday yesterday. I didn't do much. I went to Mommy and Daddy's swanky abode where I made my own birthday cake and also whipped up some delicious homemade soft pretzels. It was lovely. I watched some West Wing in the evening before going home and falling asleep. George attacked my face twice while I was half asleep, so we didn't get a long very well last night. I threw him across the room and was just very mean. It's hard to love him when he attacks my face. He even got my eye, but luckly just with his pawn--not the claw. That would have been bad.

Today I went to Target (which was incredibly busy) to do some random impulse shopping. I picked up a new comforter set. I've been eyeing them up for ages and they were on sale. I even got the last one in the store--and it was the pattern I wanted. Yay! So that was nice.

I also got a shit ton of junk food for my vegging out tonight during the Oscars. I'm retardly excited for them tonight, but I don't have many predictions. I haven't seen too many of the contenders this year. I was planning on going to see There Will be Blood this afternoon, but Target won out. I would like Juno to win in the Best Original Screenplay category and I would not be upset if Ellen Page won Best Actress. It won't happen though. I am wickedly excited to watch Kristin Chenoweth (see what I did there?) perform "That's How You Know," which is what I'm hoping wins for Best Song.
Jon Stewart is hosting so that should be super great. Most of all, though, I'm pumped for the fashion. Having missed the Golden Globes this year, I'm really jonesin' for some pretty gowns. And some ugly gowns. I just like dresses!

So yes. I like having my birthday fall on Oscar weekend. It's awesome.

My tl;dr thoughts and LOTS of pictures behind the cut )

So who are the winners? I think it's fairly obvious:
thatgirlteresa: (Old Hollywood Trish Stratus)
The cast of The Sopranos just came up and stood there while everyobody clapped. Okay. Great. That show's gone after many years on the air, and they deserve some recognition. So does this mean, then, that The Sopranos won't be getting best drama tonight? If so, isn't that a more appropriate time to recognize the cast and creators of the show? Sigh.

The Office better win for best comedy, that's all I have to say.
